The kitchen designs and upgrades that will increase the value of your home

There are several reasons why you could seek to increase the value of your home, including financial security, the potential for future gains, and wealth building. As the value of your home grows, so does your equity, which can later be leveraged for refinancing or to access lower loans. Owning a home is, for many, a marker of financial success, and further improving your property can bring a sense of accomplishment and the confidence that your financial well-being is in order. Since you most likely view your property as an investment as well, you know that raising its value will allow you to gain more capital if or when you’re planning to sell.

There’s also something rewarding about improving your household and making it look nicer. It hints at stability and the fact that the present is secured and your future looks positive. But what are some of the changes you could make in order to practically achieve this?

    Fresh cabinets

The kitchen units are one of the most important parts of your kitchen. They allow you to store all the items you use to cook and serve meals, but are also important for the overall look of your kitchen. When guests first come over and enter your kitchen, the units are most likely the first things they will see. When you start redecorating your kitchen, you will also most likely start with the cabinets and then create the rest of the look around them. Since they occupy such a large area, they must be clean and properly maintained at all times, or your entire kitchen will look shabby and unkempt.

The materials you choose must also be of high quality, as they are more likely to withstand the test of time in this manner, and will also create a more upscale look. Solid wood is naturally one of the best choices since it is so versatile. The contemporary design of handleless kitchens has been particularly popular among homeowners due to its seamless, elegant look and smooth lines. It is perfect for a more contemporary design that nonetheless focuses on minimalism as well. The design is also timeless and simply doesn’t go out of style, a key advantage anytime you’re looking to create lasting value.

If you’d rather go for a more rustic and natural look, you can always go for something that retains the natural colour and texture of wood. Designs that are reminiscent of the natural world and environment have become increasingly popular among the general public over the last few years, but the truth is that interior design connoisseurs have always been drawn to them.

    A different worktop

Apart from the cabinets, the worktop you use will also dictate whether your kitchen is visually appealing or not. Ideally, the surface should be perfectly smooth and well-maintained, with no cracks, chipping, staining, or flaking. No potential homebuyer would want to interact with such a surface since it wouldn’t look sanitary, the main feature you want in a cooking space to ensure. They are also both functional and important for their aesthetic appeal, just like the cabinets. Among the materials you can choose from, there are several that look much more luxurious and elegant, and are therefore likely to draw attention and leave a better impression as well.

Granite is one of the options, blending beauty with durability. The fact that it is resistant to heat also makes it the perfect alternative for the kitchen, where higher temperatures are commonplace. Granite is incredibly hardy, being highly resistant to chipping and scratching. Each slab has a unique appearance due to its different colours and patterns, and the material is also known for being low-maintenance, despite its luxurious look, with only regular sealing needed to prevent bacterial growth and staining.

Quartz is similar to granite, being durable and low maintenance, but it has additional flexibility as well, making it even less prone to cracking. All you need to clean a quartz worktop is soap and water. Unlike natural stones, quartz’s patterns are entirely uniform in terms of patterns, but the material can also be engineered to mimic whichever look you like. Hot pots and pans can be placed directly on it, but remember that the material is not indestructible. Lastly, marble can be used for worktops as well. It is timelessly elegant and uniquely beautiful owing to its distinctive veining and various hues.

Marble stays cool to the touch, and when properly sealed and maintained, can last for decades, making it a long-lasting investment as well.

    A fashionable splashback

The splashback has long been regarded as a kitchen necessity, not something you get for its looks, but with the emergence of many new designs, that is no longer the case. For a cohesive interior design, choose something that can act as a connecting point between the worktop and the kitchen units. Depending on the colours you choose, the splashback can become a focal point in your kitchen. If you’re a fan of minimalistic, monochromatic looks such as grey, white, or black, just think how much of a visual effect you’d get from a light blue, sunny yellow, or burnt orange splashback.

Tiles are the classic choice for splashbacks owing to the endless number of hues, patterns, and textures. They are durable, but you need to make sure to keep the grout lines clean at all times. A glass splashback is also very sleek and simple to clean. It will also make your kitchen feel more spacious and can be custom printed however you wish. For an industrial look, there’s stainless steel, which is incredibly durable but can show smudges and fingerprints. Brick splashbacks are the perfect pick for rustic kitchens, while metals such as bronze, copper, or brass will act as a stylish statement.

All areas of your kitchen can be improved and upgraded to enhance the overall value of your home. However, it is always a good idea to start with the larger and more visible areas since they’re the ones that stand out the most. Moreover, refurbishing them will most likely reveal any minor details that need attention as well.
